Marrakech to Tamtattouchte

On our first day we visit the Souk of Marrakech, what an ant’s nest this is. Second day is a working day, at least for a few hours. Rear tires are changed with the new spare tires and the laundry is done. This is not a lot of work but it does fill the day.

On the third day we pay another visit to Marrakesh. We visit the secret garden, this is an oasis in the busy Souk. A relief to spend an hour there and of course to drink a mint tea. It is a restored Riad with beautiful gardens We stroll around the Souk and around 16 o’clock we look for a roof terrace at the Jemaa-el-fna square. To see it transform as it were from a lively market to an unseen place where various food stalls are set up. The carts with tubular constructions arrive from everywhere to become a dining tent in no time, unbelievable. Well, then you really have to eat something there. And it is also delicious, fantastic.

We spend another day in Marrakech to view the gardens of Majorelle, Bahia Palace and the Sadi Tombs, but then it is time to travel further.

We head to the coast and arrive in Sidi Kaouki, which turns out to be a surfers paradise. Beach, sun and sea. We take 3 days of rest. But then it’s time to move on. The high atlas mountains are on the schedule, so we drive back east. After 2 days we just return under Marrakesh, to then go into the Atlas Mountains. The weather reports are very good to go through the atlas mountains.

We drive into the altlas mountains via the Tizi n ‘test pass and drive through beautiful mountain roads towards the waterfalls of Ouzoud. Where we go out for a day to enjoy the beautiful waterfall and the wild Berber monkeys.

Then we travel further East through the real high atlas mountains. Via beautiful small roads and mountain villages that are sometimes not on a map or GPS, where there is almost no traffic. But we stick to the normal roads, not big but also no tracks. After 3 days we arrive in Tamtattouchte, a village at the beginning of the Thodra gorge where we stop for 3 nights at the Amazigh auberge. An auberge run by a fantastic family where we enjoy the Moroccan hospitality to the full … what we experience in Tamtattouchte and further east is for the next blog post.
